Choosing wedding favours or bombonieres is often a decision that couples find hard to make. As a wedding stylist I often suggest to my clients that they can kill two birds with one stone and make their favours their place cards too. If you are feeling crafty you can always make your own - here is a tutorial on how you can make custom marble fondant cookies. You can choose to put your names and wedding date on there - or you can double them up as place cards and put your guest names on there!
You will need:
- Biscuits/Cookies (you can make your own or use pre-made)
- Fondant Letter Stamper (I used this one)
- Rolling Pin
- Edible Colouring (I used Wilton Pearl Dust)
- Clear bags
- Stickers to close bags (I can design and make these for you - contact me!)
Take some fondant and knead it to make it a bit easier for you to roll out. Make an indent in the middle and put some of your edible colouring in there. From here you will be kneading it to mix through the colour to make a marble look. Don't knead it too much otherwise all of your fondant will just change to a pale version of your chosen colour!
Use your rolling pin to roll out your fondant. You want it nice and thin!
Cut the fondant to the same size as your cookie.
Thread your letters onto your fondant stamp and stamp your words into your fondant.
This can be time consuming if you are putting a different word (such as your guest's names) onto each cookie. You might want to invest in a couple of stamps if you are writing the same two words on each biscuit - it will save you a lot of time if you don't have to keep changing the letters on the stamps!
Spread a thin layer of jam on top of your cookie and place the fondant on top. You want to make sure that your jam layer is thin or it might explode through where you have stamped the fondant letters!
Trim the edges of your fondant to make it nice and neat. Don't reuse this fondant as it might have jam on it and you will get pink streaks through your marble (if you want pink streaks then go for it!)
Place your finished cookie into a clear bag. Cut the bag to size if needed and seal it closed with a nice sticker. The sticker is a great place to put your and your partner's names and your wedding date!
